About Ashtanga Yoga

Sri K Patthabi JoisAshtanga Yoga, means the "eight limbs yoga", as it was described by Patanjali more than 2000 years ago in the Yoga Sutras. It is a dynamic form of yoga which emphasizes synchronization of breathing with movement. By doing the same series of body positions, asanas, strength in body and mind is achieved. The controlled breathing together with the bandhas creates inner heat in the body which purifies the body and brings wellbeing. The modern version of Ashtanga Yoga was created by  Sri K. Patthabi Jois (1915-2009) alias Guruji.

If you have not practiced the past and wish to register for the beginners introductions, please email to info@astangalund.se. If  you have practiced before you may come to a class without any prior notice.

To sign up to classes using our web based system you must first come past the school so that we can set you all up. Yo may then sign up advance. This is not a must, To  web registration >>

Mysore means that each exercise in its own pace and the teacher walks around and corrects. One need not be at all advanced to go to Mysore, there are people who just have practiced as early as after a few times starting in Mysore. By your self focusing on your practice you will also develop the qualities of your mind. If you do not remember what to do next we will tell you and show you. You can stop on the asana (position) as you know and when you're ready for it the teacher will give you new asanas. There is a friendly atmosphere where we share the class in silence and the teacher is there for you! The Mysore classes are a good compliment also for the beginner.
